Alex is currently playing first trumpet in Purdue University’s Collegiate Band.  The band is under the direction of Andy King, and plays modern and classical concert band music.  The first concert was in late February and featured Joplin’s “The Strenuous Life,” Pageant for Band Opus 59, Hazo’s Ride, and a selection from John William’s soundtrack to the Motion Picture “Saving Private Ryan.”  The next concert will be on April 19th at the Elliott Hall of Music.  Alex, along with over 230 other Boilermaker Band students, will be performing once again at the Indianapolis Festival Parade and the Indianapolis 500 race this Memorial Day weekend.  At the conclusion of the race, band members will have to hurry back to West Lafayette to get their uniforms dry cleaned before heading to Beijing, China.  The “All American” marching band was invited by the People’s Republic of China to perform at the Meet In Beijing International Arts Festival.  The “All American” Marching band is the first US College Marching Band to be invited by the PRC for this event.  This year the event will coincide with Olympic cultural events.

9-07 Named to the "All American" Band at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.
Touted as one of the finest collegiate marching bands in the nation, no two halftime shows are ever alike, and the music runs the gamut from standard marches to show tunes and from rock to jazz. The band has become known for its solid marching and creative musical arrangements. The members of the "All-American" Marching Band perform at all Purdue home football games as well as selected away games and bowl appearances. Alex is excited and his parents are very proud of his accomplishment. Alex says that "Band camp was brutal" and that the trumpets ended the week by "playing in the fountain of green" www.purdue.edu/Bands/aamb/Welcome.html

Brittany Jones /Color Guard

I graduated early after 3 years by taking an online diploma.  I am currently working and looking forward to going to college in the next year.  I am still doing some spinning of my flag and rifle, and twirling of my baton.  I attended some individual competitions this summer.  I won 1st place in "Sr. Rifle" at a national competition in Minnesota in July.  I hope everyone is having a great marching season.  Go Mustangs!
